2016 is the year when I want to jump into new worlds and the best way to do that is to read some book series that has been pending on my to-be-read for ages. These are some extremely popular and successful book series that I must read this year –

1. A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin

Popularly known to many as ‘A Game of Thrones’ going by the name of the first book of the series and the blockbuster television show, A song of Ice and Fire is considered one of the best works of fiction of the present era. I have always wanted to read this epic series. It is so vast that some consider it complex too. And that is why I had kept postponing my jump into this series. Now that I am nineteen and kind of mature, I think it is time I should read the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ books. Till now, only five primary books have been published. The series is intended to be seven volumes long but George R.R. Martin has also said that it can end up being longer too. The sixth book ‘The Winds of Winter’ is slated to release soon and I want to catch up with the series before it comes out.

2. The Shiva Trilogy by Amish

The only one from an Indian author and the only trilogy in this list, The Shiva Trilogy has been on my radar for a long time. It was during the time when the Indian publishing industry was exploding with pulp fiction books that this unique series came out. The first book ‘The Immortals of Meluha,’ was an instant hit, surpassing all those peppy love stories on the market. Also that this book is based upon Hindu Myths is so exciting to me. I have already acquired the first two books and should get the third one soon too and read all about the story of a man, whom legend turned into a God.

3. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

Pull up any list of YA books and the Mortal Instruments will be there. I have heard so much praise and appreciation about this series that I will go mad if I don’t read this series soon enough. It feels so weird when I am the only one in a group who don’t know what the hell is this thing called the Shadowhunters. This series consists of six books and is complete. There is also a television show based on The Mortal Instruments that just went live a month ago and since I want to watch it, it is better if I get spoiled with the books first. I think I already know what I am going to do in my summer vacation. I will go discover the world of Shadowhunters.
